Subject: Re: REQ: One Toke Over the Line by Brewer and Shipley
The story I ve heard about this recording (I think in a recorded
interview with Robert Hunter several years ago) is that it was the
Grateful Dead backing up Brewer and Shipley on this recording. It
certainly sounds like them. Anyway ...
One Toke Over The Line - Brewer and Shipley
[Intro]
[Verse 1]
[tab]
One toke over the line, sweet Jesus, one toke over the line[/tab]
[tab]
Sittin downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line[/tab]
[tab]
Waitin for the train that goes home, sweet Mary[/tab]
[tab]
Hoping that the train is on time[/tab]
[tab]
Sittin downtown in a railway station, one toke over the line[/tab]
[Verse 2]
[tab]
Who do you love, I hope it s me[/tab]
[tab]
I ve been changing, as you can plainly see[/tab]
[tab]
I felt the joy and I learned about the pain, and my mama said[/tab]
[tab]
If I should choose to make it part of me[/tab]
[Chorus]
[tab]
Would surely strike me dead, and now I m[/tab]
[Verse 3]
[tab]
I sail away, a country mile[/tab]
[tab]
And now I m returning, and showing off my smile[/tab]
[tab]
I met all the girls and I loved myself a few, and to my surprise[/tab]
[tab]
Like everything else that I ve been through[/tab]
[Chorus]
[tab]
They opened up my eyes, and now I m[/tab]
[Outro]
