April was the Month
Was one night in Spring,
with stars in the sky.
When a young girl called Molly,
put a gleam in my eye.
Her hair was like raven,
her smile, from the sun.
April was the month,
our romance begun.
Each evening we d meet,
when working was through.
We d walk in the meadows,
where no others went to.
Laughing and talking,
we had so much fun.
April was the month,
that my romance begun.
One day when I met her,
she said a wrong had been done.
Oh Johnny, dear Johnny,
I m to bear you a son.
With tears in her eyes,
no smile from the sun.
April was the month,
Oh my romance begun.
The church bell rang out.
The greatest day of my life.
For the raven haired Molly,
I took for my wife.
In the fall of that year,
A baby she was born.
But Molly, dear Molly,
never saw her young one.
The ground it was cold,
as the wind blew all around.
As my raven haired Molly,
was laid in the ground.
Her daughter was waiting,
for her mother to come.
April was the month,
my romance begun,
April was the month,
my romance begun,
