Verse 1
Joe tells stories to the children as he waits by the track
I must leave soon, don t know when I ll be back.
Kids gather laughing, and calling Joe s name, hey Hobo Joe.
With a bag on his back and a sign in his hand
Will work for food, I can clear your land as best as I can.
Verse2
Joe s old friends were many now they ve nearly disappeared.
Now Joe rides in God s shadow without any fear.
Depression brings new faces for Joe to remember.
Frail and weak from age, Joe still laughs and spins his tales,
How he was saved from a blizzard while riding the rails.
Chorus:
Hobo Joe, where will you sleep tonight.
Hobo Joe, where will you eat tonight.
You ride the rails and of your friends weave tales.
Stars in the night are your blankets delight.
Hobo Joe, Hobo Joe, where will you go from here.
Verse3
No regrets and no worries, Joe s aging eyes can see.
He was free to go or stay as he pleases.
Now he forgets time and places as his story progresses.
Joe s limo was a chain of rail cars on the Santa-Fe
In a box car of hay, Joe died where he lay.
Verse 4
No one mourns for Joe, they just repeat his tall tales,
As he takes his final ride on the rails.
Kids played hobo, while the steel rails sings Joe s blues.
His hobo friends stand by the track and tip their hat
As Joe s train goes by singing clickety clack.
Chorus:
Hobo Joe, where will you sleep tonight.
Hobo Joe, where will you eat tonight.
You ride the rails and your friends weave tales.
Stars in the night are your blankets delight.
Hobo Joe, Hobo Joe, where will you go from here.
