Finally figured out a right-sounding way to play this. A lot of tabs I ve seen don t
work out, but this sounds good and looks like what Paul plays during live performances of
song. So here we go (I ve seen him use a 12 string, though it works well enough on a 6-er)
Chords:
{x02200}
* {xx0230}
{244322}
{446644}
D# (?) {668866}
*when playing Dsus2, works to hammer on the E string to make D once in a while
Get up from a dream and I look for rain
Take an amphetamine and a crushed rat brain
How am I feeling? Better, I suppose
How am I looking, I don t want the truth
What am I doin , I ain t in my youth
I m past my prime... or was that just a pose?
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by on those
I ve been accused of never opening up
You get too close then I keep my mouth shut
I m gonna run to the wind where the big bad city blows
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by on those
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by on those.
Well you can dress to the eights, you can dress to main
Make you feel great, this fortune and fame
Wearin too much make-up... not near enough clothes
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by on those
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by on those.
So don t pin your hopes or pin your dreams
On misanthropes or guys like me
But the truth is overrated... I suppose
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by on those
It s a wonderful lie, I still get by ...
And that s it! In the studio version I believe there s an interlude in there somewhere,
the 2nd or 3rd verse, but I ve seen Paul play it live without, so, do whatever you want.
first tab!
