This beautiful ballad has a long story.
It was composed in 1883 by the Mexican: Narciso Serradel Sevilla,
who named the melodie: La Golondrina (The Swallow).
The English lyrics and new name, were written in 1960 by Boudleaux & Felice
Bryant, and was recorded as first by: Jimmy Bell (Sweeney).
Solomon King (08-13-1930 / 01-21-2005), born in Lexington, Kentucky, U.S.,
recorded his version in 1968. That became a hit record in about 40
countries. In the U.K. it peaked on nr. 3, and charted for 11 weeks in the
Top-20, in the U.S. it appeared only on nr. 117 in the Bilboard chart,
and in The Netherlands it only reached the Tip-parade.
