Kris Kristoferson (1936) es un cantautor norteamericano muy cercano al country, si bien no a las corrientes que han predominado dentro del género en los últimos 20 años.

Sus composiciones han sido cantadas por muchos gigantes del mundo de la música como Janis Joplin, que se apoderó de su versión de "Me and Bobby McGee".También el rey, Elvis Presley grabó 2 de sus canciones: "For the good times" y "Help me make it through the night".

Como intérprete, aunque si ha cosechado éxito, éste no ha sido comparable al de contemporáneos como Willie Nelson o Johnny Cash, con los que formó al igual que Waylon Jennings del mítico cuarteto "The Highwaymen".
